This little accessory works like a charm. It does support video out for both the iPad 1 and 2, but only from the dedicated video app, or a few other video services like Netflix. The mirroring feature (which will display everything that is on the iPad--video, apps, home screen, etc.--exactly mirrored on the TV/monitor) is only possible with the iPad 2. All it requires is an HDMI cable, plug one end into the TV, the other into the adapter, and it's good to go. There is even an additional 30 pin port so that the iPad can be plugged into a power source at the same time, if there's ever a need to exceed it's 10 hour battery span. All in all, an excellent way to make the iPad's content accessible for teachers, business presentations, home entertainment, or other group activities. A great and useful accessory for the iPad.

I bought this item right before HBOGo was released so I could watch all of the HBO series' on my TV. I was disappointed that when HBOGo was released and I hooked up my iPad 2 all that popped up on my TV was a HBOGO logo. Besides that it works great, if you buy movies or shows off of itunes they look great on the TV. I would buy this unless you want it specifically for HBOGo

Though released with the iPad 2, this adapter will, in fact, pipe both video and audio out of an iPad 1 and an iPhone 4 through HDMI without any problem as long as the app you wish to view supports it.

My main interest in this adapter was to have the ability to watch Netflix streaming on family TVs who do not have Internet service. The Netflix app works beautifully over AT&T 3G connections on both the iPad and iPhone 4, but I wished to have a way to use the service at older family member's houses who do not have Internet of any sort. I had read most of the reviews here on Amazon and done some other digging around, but no one was very clear as to what this adapter could and could not do on older hardware. Here's my assessment to date:

iPad 2 - You get true "mirroring" performance. This essentially means that whatever you see and hear from the iPad 2 on screen gets put through the HDMI connection, including the home screen icons, sound effects, etc. This is what the adapter was created for.

iPad 1 - When plugged in, you do not get to see anything on the TV screen, but the TV will recognize that it is receiving an HDMI signal. It will simply be blank. The iPad 1 screen will behave normally until you open an app that is compatible with video/audio out and that's when the magic starts. In the Netflix app, which is the only one I've tested so far, you still get the menus and whatnot on the iPad 1 screen as always, but as soon as you start playing streaming video, the iPad 1 screen displays a red screen with the Netflix logo. All the video and sound gets piped through the HDMI output to the TV.

I did not have sophisticated testing equipment or ability to display the signal's resolution on the TV, but the resolution appears to be, at least for iPad 1, 720p. There was no distortion or stretching of the picture and it filled the TV screen properly with very small horizontal bars to keep the aspect ratio correct. With three bars of signal, the movie streamed just fine and quality was perfectly viewable with no grossly obvious compression artifacts. Better than VHS and loosely in the ballpark of DVD (though upconverted to 720p, apparently).

iPhone 4 - I tried the same thing on my iPhone 4. It all works essentially the same as on an iPad 1, which makes perfect sense given the similarities in hardware. I did notice much worse compression artifact errors, though, when output to TV. My guess is that the video signal being streamed to the iPhone 4 is scaled down to fit the small screen, where such artifacting would be less noticeable, and that this small-screen version does not scale well to a 42" HDTV. Though both sound and video were output just fine, the quality of the video left much to be desired. In fact, I would describe the video as essentially unwatchable.

It's my understanding that other apps work essentially the same. I don't have a list of apps, other than Netflix, which will work in this way. I wouldn't be surprised if the YouTube app, iPod video, etc. worked and even possibly a game or two. My main need was Netflix, and it works just fine for that purpose.

The adapter itself has two ports, one HDMI female port and one standard female iPod connector port. This permits you to power/charge the iPad or iPhone while simultaneously outputting video and audio. Not included, of course, is an HDMI cable. I would suggest you get at least a 3' cable, possibly a 6' cable, with which to connect to the TV or projector since you'll have to account for needing to physically manipulate the touch screen to start up video output. Build quality is typical Apple, which is to say excellent.

Very pleased with my gamble to purchase this. Didn't want others to have to worry if their intended use was similar.

if you leave your laptop all the time plugged to the computer, the little yellow thing will melt, I am not saying with this that it will not work instantely,but that little hole will start being bigger and bigger and then, you will have to play with the plugger in order to get charged your laptop. I recommend you do not leave your laptop all the time plugged. If you dont, just replay me after 1 year and you will see what I am talking about. rEMEMBER all you guys that is a no-original charger, it is a supply.

Works well with my Acer 1410. It feels better made than the original part, the cord is thicker and the power brick doesn't get as hot. I just wish the cord was a little longer.

I am a computer tech and a tech writer and I really should have know better but I purchased this anyway to go on our netbook after buying another one that did not work at all. Well this one worked flawlessly for about 35 days (past the point of return) and then begin to not work without adjust the cord. Well last week the charger overheated and completed fried the netbook. Now it is a charged piece of melted plastic that is a doorstop.

This is a lesson learned. When it involves things that deal with electric and can cause a fire, then buy OEM when possible and barring that get something from a dependable brand.

It should get a zero stars because it is such a faulty product.

I bought this battery to replace my m911g battery for my dell inspiron 1525. I was a little scared that it would not work since there was a report or two stating it was not compatable with the m911g battery. I took a leap of faith and bought it, the free amazon prime 2 day shipping had it in my hands the next day, and if it did not work I knew amazon would make returning the battery super easy. So I put the battery in the laptop plugged it in over night as per the instructions and booted it up this morning. Decent preformance out of the 9 cell battery, about 3 hours on normal usage so far. Per the instructions I ran the battery all the way down from the first charge and recharged it. Its now running only on battery after the second charge and it has been going for about an hour and a half now and still has 70% left. Granted I'm not doing much on it but still decent run time.

I'd say if your looking for a replacement battery for your inspiron 1525 or simliar take a chance on this battery. So far I've been plesantly suprised. Is it as great of a battery as a Dell branded 9 cell....maybe...maybe not. But to get 3 hours out of it is pretty good. Even if this battery only lasts 10 months I can afford to buy 4 more before speanding the same amount I'd spend on 1 dell 9 cell battery. If I buy 2 of these and get 2 yeras out of them by then its time to just replace the laptop at that point.

If my expereince changes I'll report back..but for now I'd say give it a shot.

This little battery is still running great for me. No problems at all using this battery since buying it. I would strongly suggest this to anyone with an Inspirion 1525. It is recognized properly by windows and charges with no issues. I can use it for all of 3 hours browsing the internet with no issues. Buy this now.

Battery still working great. No problems at all. Still getting about 3 hours of use out of a full charge. Still would recommmend.

Almost a full year using this battery. Still getting great power and long life from it. I figured if it worked for 6 months it would pay for itself. one year strong and showing great life. Strongly recommend this money saver.

For those that are confused about the physical size of the replacement battery, this is an extended size battery. There is the standard size that is flush with your laptop when inserted and there are the extended sizes that protrude out approximately one inch from the back of your laptop. You will find this same protrusion on any extended size battery you purchase directly from Dell; it will stick out the back a little and that is normal. The standard size is a six cell battery and will give you a shorter run time on a charge. This is a nine cell battery; this is how they get more run time out of the battery... it's bigger ;

Considering the same size battery from Dell for an Inspiron 1525 costs $179; I would say paying $39 is a bargain (price I paid at time of purchase). It would still be a bargain even if it lasts only half as long.

You can save yourself some headaches though on having to replace your battery more often than necessary:

- If you generally have your laptop plugged in and the battery is sitting there fully charged all the time, unplug it and let the battery run down a bit (about 40%) and then remove it. Your laptop will function just fine without the battery. When you need to use the battery, put it back in, let it charge up a bit, and use it.

I can't give this product a five star rating as I haven't had it for an extended period of time. I received it, plugged it in, discharged it, and then charged it up to full - it shows about 6.5 hours of run time with the backlight on the LCD at dim. Ran it down to 40% and put it away for storage. I'll come back and edit this review a few months down the road.

[EDIT - Addition - Jan 31, 2011]

Well, a few months down the road has passed by. First, a little background info so you can relate my usage to what I am saying. I am a full time tech college student, I drive a small fifteen minutes both ways to campus, and I attend class four days out of the week. I have the computer on pretty much the whole time as that is where I store my notes, take my notes, and do some of my homework. I use the the battery fairly frequently. With all that use my battery still reads 6.5 hours. Not sure if it is reading right or not, but it does hold a charge through all my classes down to about the 15-20% mark at worst (depending on usage). I do keep the battery on power saver settings while in school; display dimness turned all the way down, display turns off in 3 minutes, goes to sleep in fifteen minutes, and WiFi turned off unless I need to look something up. I do occasionally turn the display brightness up, but turn it back down after. One needs to realize that the more you are demanding out of your laptop it will shorten how long your battery will keep the laptop running; I am pretty much using it for Office 2007. I remove the battery on the weekends as I can run it off the power cord at home.

I have been pretty satisfied with the battery, so much that when my wife's laptop (Inspiron 1525) had her battery kick the bucket I went and ordered one for her also (she has the same brand/model laptop as I do). I would buy this battery again and am changing my rating for it to a five star.

[EDIT - Addition - October 10, 2011]

It has been almost a full year since I bought this battery and it is still going strong. I cannot really add anymore to this than I already have. I am still using this on a regular basis in school and manage to run through my 3-4 hour classes with roughly 15% charge left. I have even made it through my Wednesdays this semester which run me from 10am-4pm with running on very conservative settings (display dimmed as often as possible).

I am very pleased with this battery and my wife's battery also.

Be sure to get the "RoHs" battery featured here. I purchased a 9 cell battery from another seller at about the same time as this 9 cell battery. This one holds a 3 hour 40 minute (plus time to spare) charge (I tested with media player playing the first half the time and a backup running the second half - no idle time) and the other barely gets past 2 hours. HUGE difference. Also the other battery gets warm - not this one. Nice! I highly recommend this product.

As for the seller, the shipping time was fast and the price is decent, esp for what you're getting (it's like two thirds cheaper than buying direct from Dell if I'm not mistaken).

One one of the best buys I've made over the past 12 months. Kudos!

Sony Vegas has always been easy to use for a video suite. I use two different audio workstations, neither of them Sony, and this works very similarly as far as the interface goes. You can drag stuff around, cut and paste, add tracks, and all that. The big problem is that 64-bit OS is not fully supported yet. I can build a project on my 64-bit machine but I cannot render there. I got the software before I got the new machine. I have to finish the project, then take the entire folder of files to a 32-bit machine to render it into an avi, or mpg, or anything. When I try to render in 64-bit it just locks up around 7 or 8% and quits working. I have even left it for 3 hours to no avail.

Maybe version 12 will do 64-bit but so far you will need a large, portable hard drive to move projects back and forth.
